Hop Shing Re-invented

  • by

The former location of Chinatown Fave Hop Shing might be a new battleground for Kid A LLC who is seeking an OP (full liquor) license from CB3 (community board 3). The as yet to be named establishment at 9-10 Chatham Square filed paperwork at CB3 and recently posted the 30-day community notices on the outside construction wall.

Notice informing residents of pending CB3 hearing inviting those to send comments.

A closed-door meeting was organized by groups who purports to represent Chinatown for invitees who had to pre-register and be approved to attend and meet the operator, but operator Nicholas Mochel is inviting anyone to reach out if they have any concerns.

Interior of bistro will have a 10-seat bar with table seating for 60 patrons.

Sample menu of the yet to be named business slated to be a French style bistro with operating hours of 5pm until midnight 7 days a week.

Chinatown’s restaurant scene has diversified with the introduction of Non-Chinese cuisines giving diners options. Prices have steadily risen at Chinatown eateries since the pandemic mainly due to supply issues and this moderately priced bistro might be a fit for the diverse neighborhood. Chinatown is still known for cheaper eats but long gone are the days of the 10-cent Char-Sui-Baos & 55-cent rice plates.
