Almost a year after a fire at 48 Mott Street tenants are no closer to moving back. The fire on March 24,2023 which started in the back pf a ground level gift shop displaced dozens of residents, many of which are seniors and long-term tenants.

Although extensive renovations had been made since and commercial tenant on ground floor had reopened, the building still has vacate orders posted on its front entrances.

In what may be a sign of things to come, a banner appeared on the 2nd floor balcony of the Lin Sing association which owns the property. The banner states, subdividing or sub-leasing is illegal, and the Lin Sing will use every legal means and litigation to address it. CCM Christopher Marte whose office had aided several displaced tenants and vowed to expedite repairs has since gone silent.
