Columbus Park got a much-needed clean-up and spruce-up this morning as employees and interns from Goldman Sachs descended on the much-used northern end of the park. The crew of 25 corporate employees weeded and cleaned the flower beds and the common areas that yielded 20+ bags of refuse.
Columbus Park is among a handful of open spaces in the crowded tenement jungle of Chinatown and the Lower East Side. Long a popular gathering spot for seniors to socialize. The park has taken on more importance to the community in the aftermath of seniors being displaced from a nearby senior center when a fire in Feb 2020 forced them out of 70 Mulberry Street.
The cleanup was part of Goldman Sach’s giving back to community it serves program.
