Chinatown Fire turns Deadly

  • by

A fire in Chinatown took a deadly turn Sunday morning at 10:30am when Mr. Frank Yee 75 who was pulled out of the building succumbed to his injuries. The smoldering fire took place on July 4th around 1:50pm at 42 Mulberry Street.

Excerpts from Bayard Bugle contributor Karlin Chan. “I met Frank about 40 years ago when he would stop into neighborhood watering holes GIAMBONE’s and ANTICA ROMA. We would just chill and shoot the shit or watch the football games on the TV.” “we weren’t particularly close back then or during these past 30+ years” “but we’d see each other almost daily and say hello and exchange pleasantries.”

“The day of the fire I saw the firefighters pull Frank from the building and he looked unresponsive, a day later when I visited him at the hospital’s ICU unit the doctors told me had had to be revived several times” “I knew Frank did not marry nor did he ever mention any siblings, so I agreed to be his emergency contact person. Sunday morning, I received a call from the team doctor informing me Frank had passed at 10:13am.

“Long story short, I just did what had to be done” “I am grateful for the support from the Celestial Love foundation who graciously paid for the funeral and plot” “I started a GoFundMe link to raise funds for a grave marker and other expenses and leftover funds will be donated back to the fund”

“Frank’s friend Oscar and I had arranged for Frank’s beloved bulldog Bam Bam to be cremated and we will place the ashes in with Frank to be together forever.”
