The Street along 95 Chrystie St
An attempted rape of a elderly woman across from Sara Roosevelt Park occurred early Sunday morning around 6am. The 80-year-old Asian woman was walking along the sidewalk by 95 Chrystie Street when she was accosted by a male Hispanic. The younger Hispanic man attempted to take off her jacket & assault her but when the victim fought back, the suspect ran off. The victim was not seriously hurt.
The area around Sara Roosevelt Park between Canal Street and Delancey Street is a known drug and alcohol hang-out for vagrants and homeless men. Several murders have been recorded along this stretch of park in the past 3 years.
Police arrested 38-year-old Juan Hernandez of 800 n. Franklin Street, Watkins Glen NY. Hernandez is reportedly undocumented.
